Ashiatsu means “foot pressure” in Japanese. It is a Japanese massage technique that is done either seated or standing on the table. Using the therapists bare feet to massage and bars above for balance. This techniques beneficial because it allows the therapist to use 100% of their body weight to distribute pressure, which allows for a deeper massage. The strokes in Ashiatsu are longer and distributed at a slower pace. Promoting deeper relaxation and stretching/elongating muscles, much better than traditional massage. Because the foot is so broad and conforms to the body more naturally than arms/hands, the deeper pressure feels more comfortable!
